Dr. Taher Al-Bakaa is a visiting scholar at Harvard University. In 2004, he was named minister of higher education in Iraq. After 2003, Al- Bakaa was appointed president of Al-Mustansiriya. A year later, in the mid- 1990s, Al- Bakaa was chair of the history department at Al-Mustansiriya University, the second-largest university in Iraq.
“Life without hope has no value,” Al-Bakaa says. “He who loses hope cannot live. But to be optimistic you always have to see a light in the end of the tunnel.”
